Confused Julia

A confused woman's guide to Northern England and beyond

A Life Lesson From Pinterest

A few weeks ago, I was introduced to the world of Pinterest.

Little did I know how much of my life would then get sucked into a vortex of pins and boards. But who needs a social life anyway, am I right?

Since that time I have made some very surprising (and at times horrifying) discoveries about the world. Here are just a few.

Some People Have Too Much Time On Their Hands

If you make your own toilet cleaner, sew your own onesie or know 101 different ways to decorate your old tin cans, I’m sorry, but you have too much time on your hands.

We’d all love to be crafty and be able to save a few pounds, but sometimes there’s such a thing as being a cheapskate. Or extremely bored.

The Discovery of “Elf On The Shelf”

I had never heard of Elf On The Shelf.

I’m guessing it started in the USA and hasn’t yet found its way into the mainstream UK Christmas market. But when it does, we better all watch out. This crazy and psychotic elf hides around your house every day and flies home to the North Pole every night to report on your behaviour to Father Christmas. Either that, or it’s a cute and fun way to get your kids to behave for the whole month of December as they believe they’re being watched by a toy that you, as a parent, have to find crazy and amusing places to hide it in.

But as Pinterest suggests, some people take the creative side of the Elf a little too far (maybe we should refer back to point number 1 for this)….

The World Is Crockpot Crazy

Again, I’d never heard of a crockpot until I joined Pinterest. Maybe that’s because we call them slow cookers over in Ye Olde England.

Man, do people like to slow cook stuff.

Thanks to Pinterest users I have learned how to slow cook pork, chilli, lasagna, hot chocolate and many other unidentified gloopy dishes. I don’t even have a slow cooker. But that’s not the point.

People Love Motivational Shit

There’s a saying that goes: “If you’re having a bad day, just read an inspiring quote and it’ll turn your life around”. Or something like that; I’ll have to repin it and check.

I love a good motivational quote as much as the next person, but I do worry that some people live their life by them and in some cases, this is a really bad idea. In other cases, it just plain insane.

There Is Nothing Funnier Than Animals In Costumes

There’s not much to say about this one. It’s a fact we’ve all known for a long time but now Pinterest gives us an arena to laugh at these adorable and sometimes ridiculous photos on a daily basis while procrastinating doing other things.

It doesn’t get better than this, guys.

There Is Nothing Creepier Than A Baby In An Animal Costume

In the same vein as the above point, babies should never EVER be dressed in animal costumes.

It may seem funny at the time (it’s pretty damn funny), but I’m almost sure it’s bordering on child abuse. Let alone the fact that you’ll make the dog jealous that your child has a better costume than they do.
