The original Oklahoma Joe’s BBQ joint in Kansas City is located in a gas station and has long been hailed to offer some of the best barbequed meats in the USA (Bourdain is a big fan).Although the company has now opened a couple of more modern restaurants in the outskirts of the city, the gas station location continues to be the original and best, so when feasting on barbeque for the first time, it was only natural that I try it there.
Along with a pulled pork sandwich with spicy slaw, I shared this half slab of BBQ ribs, served atop a slice of Texas Toast (thick cut, almost sweet toasted white bread) with a side of dill pickles. The meat just fell away from the bone and melted in your mouth and the barbeque flavour was to die for. I actually preferred the ribs to the sandwich, because it was just unadulterated barbeque flavour with nothing added.
