Confused Julia

A confused woman's guide to Northern England and beyond

September 13, 2013 lifestyle

Currently

As I’m usually at least one city or country behind in my blog posts, I thought I’d share what I’m “currently” up to, in life in general.

Reading: The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton. I have only ever read one other of Morton’s books several years ago (The House at Riverton – which I enjoyed) but decided to download this on my Kindle after reading good reviews about it. I’m really enjoying it so far. It is one of those books that jumps from past to present; a genre I seem to have read a lot of in the past couple of years. I don’t get to read as often as I’d like anymore, which is crazy because you’d think I’d have more time on my hands, but I always try and catch up on my books on bus rides and plane journeys.

Turkish food

Eating: I’m currently in Istanbul so I’m eating a whole multitude of things. For breakfast this morning I had a Turkish breakfast of eggs, cucumber, tomato and cheese, with a cup of Turkish tea. Last night we ate at a great Doner kebab place that had apparently been on No Reservations but I had forgotten about it (until we saw the paper clippings on the wall!) Later today I’m hoping to try some “fishy bread”; a grilled fish on some crusty bread, caught fresh from the sea.

Thinking About: The end of my travels. This is something Scott and I have talked a lot about lately, mainly because we really miss our dog and because we are craving having our own place. I am also being plagued by little health niggles (sinus infections and the like) and am becoming increasingly weary of packing up my stuff every week or so. My travels will never end, but maybe I need to stay in one place for a while. Just sayin.

Listening To: The Spotify Top 100. I don’t get to keep up with current music as much as I’d like these days (gone are the days when I would hear the same songs all day on the radio in the office) but Spotify is the closest thing I have to a radio. I also sometimes listen to comedy podcasts on travel days, because I miss English humour. A lot.

Enjoying: Being an Auntie. I got to spend some time with my gorgeous niece when I was recently back home for my birthday and she is the smiliest and cheekiest baby ever. My sister says sometimes she accidentally calls her by my name because she reminds her a lot of me when I was a baby (i.e. cheeky) However, I don’t miss having the theme tune to Balamory stuck in my head all day, every day.

Watching: Right now we have a pileup of TV shows we need to catch up with online. The Newsroom, Dexter, Great British Bake Off and Dragon’s Den to name a few. I love being able to watch shows in the evening – one of the many awesome benefits of the internet. Is anyone else watching this last season of Dexter? I can’t believe that so much has happened in one season! Can’t wait to see how they finish this for good. (p.s. no spoilers please – I am a couple of episodes behind right now)

Loving: The fact that I picked up some different clothes from home and dropped off ones that I didn’t want to wear anymore. I also brought my Nike trainers with me that I purchased for my trip to Vietnam (but never packed with me in my backpack on this trip) that are as comfy as wearing slippers. I can’t believe I never brought them with me before. I have a feeling my walking shoes are going to be gathering dust now because these bad boys are so comfortable and breathable

I feel like I need to watch Dexter, everyone goes on about it. That’s horrible about sinus problems, I had a sinus infection last year that lasted about 6 months so I know how horrible that must be – hope you feel better soon xx

Thanks hun. It sucks not being able to breathe properly! Six months? Wow. That is terrible.
