Confused Julia

A confused woman's guide to Northern England and beyond

Skinny Orange Julius

skinny orange julius

There’s a saying: “When your neighbour gives you oranges, make Orange Julius”.

Or something like that.

Basically I met one of my neighbours the other day in a totally random way. I noticed that the trunk of Scott’s parents’ hire car was open and trotted out to shut it. In my pyjamas. As I did so, a guy called out “Hey! Do you like lemons??”

Um, is that a trick question?!

“If you want, I can throw you some, I’ve got loads on my tree!”

At which point I panicked, because I haven’t had to catch anything, let alone lemons from a stranger, since high school. I did what any normal woman would do and I ran inside and called Scott, who is definitely a better catch than me. You can imagine how odd that conversation was. “Come quick! Our neighbour wants to throw us lemons!”

Anyhoo, turns out the nice guy in question is called Cecil and they weren’t lemons at all but oranges (I’m not sure at what point in our neighbourly relationship I should point out that he’s been putting oranges in his water?) He threw us about eight oranges and we said our goodbyes and promptly started to think what we could make with our new free bounty.

Of course, a nice, refreshing drink was in order. Enter the skinny Orange Julius. Tastes almost the same as the one from the well-known brand, but without any refined sugar or extra fake additives.

So next time your neighbour throws you some lemon-oranges, you’ll totally be prepared.
