Working in Finance Abroad

Every day, thousands of people wake up doing the work they love in another country. Every industry has choice countries where people can balance an exotic life abroad and a job they love, and people working in the financial industry can find the perfect place to live, work, and play in the Cayman Islands and the Caribbean.

How Offshore Financial Centers Mean New and Fascinating Career Opportunities

An Offshore Financial Center (OFC) is a country designated as a place where international corporations often choose to do business due to their low tax rates and openness towards inflows of corporate funds. Naturally, such inviting policies mean that banking and financial infrastructure to handle the economic inflow is constantly on the rise, and there is plenty of work for the entrepreneurial-minded who are looking to have it all now. A great example of this trend can be found in the Cayman Islands and the islands of the Caribbean. The Cayman Islands official website lists a number of benefits to working in the Cayman Islands.

Favorites among vacation destinations, these picturesque countries, thanks to their growing clout as OFCs, have become the perfect place to work in the financial sector as well. A number of job opportunities for the right professionals are available with growing demand.

Ready to Make a Life Change For the Better?

Many people are trying life out abroad to discover the richness of living in a whole new environment and reaping both financial and personal benefits. Forbes recently ran an article offering tips and advice for those considering transplanting to a new country. One advantage of working in the Cayman Islands and the Caribbean is that the language barrier is virtually non existent (most of the strongest OFC’s in the Carribbean, including the Caymans, are English-speaking countries). Another advantage is that rather than networking through your existing company, companies in the financial sector are actively and directly recruiting financial wizards ready to take the leap right now.

That said, there are things you should do to prepare. Cultural differences are something you should be prepared for, as well as sharpening your math skills on-the-fly. (Buying groceries in a foreign country invariably involves a quick mastery of speedy foreign exchange calculations.) Once you’ve left your home country, it will seem as though the entire world is moving at a different speed. The world you once knew will pass by as you live your own life in a new land, detached from things that were once a huge personal focus. Embrace your new role as a new person at your work, your job, and everywhere you go. You will be building an entirely new routine from the ground up, and approaching every minute of it with the curiosity of a childhood long gone.

Taking the Leap

If working in finance in the Cayman Islands and the Caribbean sounds like an impossible dream, it isn’t! Right now, there are people just like you working their dream jobs in some of the most beautiful locales in the world, and enjoying every evening the way other people spend their vacations. Employers are looking for qualified, talented candidates right now – and if for the right people, the benefits others have when they retire will be available as soon as the workday is done.
