Awesome Surprises for Your Dad on Father’s Day

It’s almost June, and that means Father’s Day is quickly approaching. If you’ve got an awesome dad that you adore, make sure he knows it on June 19th by planning some great surprises that are guaranteed to make him feel loved. Whether you’re able to spend the day with him or you’re celebrating your father from afar, these fun surprises are sure to keep him on his toes and delighted.

A Special Get-Together in His Honor
If you’re going to be in town with your dad during the weekend of June 19th, and you count party planning as one of your best skills, consider a get-together with all of his favorite people. You’ll likely have to plan it for the Saturday before, as many folks will be busy with their own Father’s Day plans, but if you can pull it off, your dad will feel more appreciated than ever. It could just be a family shindig, or you could invite you and your siblings’ childhood friends that might have seen your dad as a secondary sort of father figure growing up. Making your dad realize how much of an impact he’s had on the various people around him will definitely be a lovely sentimental offering.

A Memory Jar
Your dad has likely been there with you every step of the way, and you’ve probably created a bevy of wonderful memories that the both of you cherish. With this in mind, spend an evening writing down all of your most precious memories you have with your dad on small slips of paper. Once you’ve got everything in writing, fold up each piece of paper and place it into a mason jar. Top it off with a bit of fabric wrapped with twine around the jar and present it to your dad. He’ll enjoy going through memory by memory, and you’ll be surprised at how easy it is to come up with ideas once you start writing.

If You’re Far From Home
One of the hardest parts of being on the go and living a life of travel is missing out on special occasions back at home, but even if you can’t be with your dad on the day, you can still make him feel special—even from thousands of miles away. Have some fun Father’s Day gifts delivered, make sure to send a card (or a letter, if you happen to be a master of words), and be sure to plan a Skype date that day. Just because you’re far away doesn’t mean you can’t feel like you’re part of the celebrations, and you can always make the separation a bit easier by planning for your next trip home. Book a plane ticket home for a date within the next few months, and send him a picture of the ticket confirmation. It’s sure to put a smile on his face, and give you both something to look forward to.

A Literature Junkie
Is your dad a book lover? Perhaps he has a longer reading list than yours and can usually be found with some type of literature in his hand. Make sure you keep him swimming in delightful literature with a book box subscription from TheBookDrop.com. He can choose from contemporary, historical fiction, mystery, thriller, and more, and each month he’ll receive a new supply of amazing books that he’ll be ecstatic to get to reading.

Create Something
It was true when you were little and made projects that Dad hung proudly on the refrigerator or in his study, and it’s true now—parents love homemade gifts. It shows thoughtfulness and requires more effort than picking up a premade present. Even if you feel you don’t have an artistic bone in your body, taking the time to create something with your bare hands is sure to be a gesture your dad appreciates. It could be a painting, a woodwork, or anything else you think you could handle—whatever it is, he’s sure to love it.
