Welcome home! 5 simple hallway updates that won’t take over your weekend

Living room and hallway

When you come home from work, the school run, or just chasing around after friends and family, does your heart sink when you step in the door? Drab walls, shoes piled up in a smelly mess, the ugly broadband router, damaged, dirty walls and grubby floor? Well, don’t despair! Did you know there are some really simple ways you update your hallway without breaking the bank or using up all your free time?

Seriously! Don’t believe me? Read on for 5 super simple hallway updates that won’t take over your weekend.

Your flooring

The flooring in the hallway works hard all day long, and it’s easy to see why; with everyone traipsing in at all hours of the day, bringing in mud, soggy shoes and goodness knows what else the dog or the kids have stepped in on the way back from that walk…It’s time to update your flooring to really give your hallway a boost. Hardwood flooring is really popular right now – you just need help from a reputable wood flooring company to bring your vision to life! Hardwood doesn’t stain like carpet and you won’t need to vacuum several times to make sure it looks clean.

Work on the walls

Like the floor, the walls in the hallway go through a lot. Wet coats sloshed on them, mucky shoes kicked the wallpaper – nightmare! Freshening up the walls is a simple job that won’t take up too much of your time. You don’t even have to paint/wallpaper all the walls, you can easily create a focal point this way. Mix in some matching artwork and accessories to compliment your chosen look and it’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a new home.

The rug

If completely changing the flooring isn’t on your timescale or budget then don’t worry. You still have options. Adding a new rug to your hallway will not only boost your flooring, but also save what’s left of it. You can even inject a little of your own personality this way; if your hallway is traditional then adding a funky coloured rug is your way of putting your mark on things.

Rethink your storage

We all have a lot of stuff, and a lot of if accumulates in the hallway. Whether it’s shoes, coats, keys, letters and stationary – things always seem messy and hectic. So, why not rethink your storage options? Think high shelving for things like hats and small boxes for gloves, sun hats, sun cream and sunglasses. For all those shoes, how about a lidded trunk with a padded top for seating?

Smarten up the stairs

If your stairs are in the hallway, then don’t neglect them. Try updating the flooring that runs up the stairs with a new runner. Or perhaps draw interest to the walls and create your very own photo gallery. Add some twinkling fairy lights to your pictures and it’ll look lovely and welcoming after a busy day at work.
