Confused Julia

A confused woman's guide to Northern England and beyond

April 1, 2025 house and home

Find Your Dream Home in a Peaceful, Green Setting

There’s not much dreamier than a home amidst green scenery. It’s no secret that nature is a wonderful way to boost mental health. If you’re hunting for a countryside location, you’re already onto a winner.

As simple as the benefits are, though, finding a perfect house can be trickier. Here’s what to know — your dream home is out there waiting.

 1. The benefits of living in a green environment

As you know, living in a green environment unlocks dozens of mental health benefits. Self-esteem improves, stress and anxiety reduce, and relaxation rockets. Having such natural beauty on your doorstep even prompts a change in physical health — encouraging you to keep active.

There are health considerations, too, like improved air quality compared to inner-city living. With more space, the opportunities for clean energy sources also increase drastically. Invest in more sustainable energy, like solar and even wind turbines.

Furthermore, with the growth in remote working, green lifestyles aren’t just for retirees. Young families and professionals are quickly jumping on board.

 2. The rise of eco-friendly developments

Embracing a greener lifestyle doesn’t mean avoiding newly built houses. The UK is increasingly seeing more eco-friendly housing developments. A big reason for this is its Net Zero initiative, alongside the changes that came into effect in June 2022, enforcing that new homes should release 30% less carbon.

It’s possible to find cost-effective and energy-efficient developments in semi-rural areas. Passionate about embracing an environmentally friendly lifestyle, not just green surroundings? Take note.

 3. Choosing the right location: access to amenities and transport links

Speaking of location, balancing peacefulness with practicality is important. Commuter towns are a popular compromise, especially given the rise in semi-rural new build developments. Consider how important accessible amenities are for you. Will you need transport links?

A well-connected area is perfect for embracing nature while benefiting from convenience. Do you really want to be totally in the sticks? Or is a leafy suburb with a school, shops, and train station more up your street? For instance, in London, you could pick a commuter-friendly area like Richmond Upon Thames, Bromley, or Kingston Upon Thames.

 4. What to look for in new homes for sale

When considering new homes, always prepare properly for viewings. Your list of questions should evaluate energy efficiency, assess construction quality, retrieve warranty details, and size up community amenities. A peaceful home is one without endless problems. Remember that this property should make your life easier; check the framework and nitty gritty details, not just the aesthetic.

Don’t be afraid to probe for answers as to what the final estate will look like, too — will it be the peaceful oasis of your dreams? Or are you better off looking elsewhere?

Your dream home is out there. It’s just a question of finding it.
