What to Wear, What to Wear? – Packing for a Cruise

One of the most stressful parts of going on holiday is knowing what to pack in your suitcase, and remembering it all! You don’t want it to rain only to find you’ve popped nothing but shorts and T-shirts or bikinis, skirts and blouses in the suitcase. At the same time, you don’t want the weather to be blazing hot just to realize that you only brought trousers and jumpers. You’re travelling around the world and whether you’re crossing jewel blue oceans on a Caribbean cruise or floating past glaciers through Alaskan waters, packing the right gear is tricky.

Here are a few tips to make it that little bit easier:

Don’t get distracted

One of the trickiest things when you’re packing is getting distracted and forgetting to finish a task: ending up with only one pair of socks in your suitcase, for instance, because halfway through selecting socks you remembered you needed to find your curling tongs.

Write a list

One way to avoid the pitfalls of distraction is to write a list of everything you need, and tick it off as you place it in the suitcase. You can even search online for holiday packing lists and gather suggestions from there!

Don’t panic

Even while you’re packing, don’t worry too much. Cruise ships have shops on board, crammed full of fashionable clothing in case you forget something essential, along with toiletries and anything else that might have slipped your mind.

Pack for all occasions

Familiarise yourself with what facilities are on board before you pack. If there’s a really fancy restaurant where you want to eat, you’ll know to pack your killer heels and your favourite dress so you can really make it a night to remember. Remember to check for a dress code.

Pack smart

Some people like to make sure that all the outfits they take with them on holiday are of similar shades and colours. This means that you can mix and match your outfits, and really make the most of your holiday wardrobe without repeating the same outfits over and over.

Pack for your destination

Think yourself through a typical day on your holiday. If you’re going somewhere warm, you’ll need clothes for warm weather, but also clothes to cover up if you go on excursions or want to keep your skin out of the sun for a little while. Don’t forget a warm layer in case you want to sit out on deck after dark and gaze at the stars! If your cruise is in chillier climes, you’ll need warmer clothes for the outdoors. But the ship will be warm inside, so you can still bring that sexy dress you love!

Cameras and entertainment

Hey, you need your down time, don’t forget. You might want to bring a guide book so you can read about your destinations, a novel to read while you’re lounging by the pool, and a camera so you can capture memorable moments. You’ll need chargers for your electrical items, and adaptors for plug sockets too!

Even if you forget one or two items, your cruise will be the trip of a lifetime. Relax, stay calm, and have a great time even if you only brought one pair of socks!
