Running is among the most popular forms of exercise there is. It’s something that human beings have adapted to doing, and just about everyone can do it. There’s no massive financial hurdle to overcome when it comes to gear, as there is with cycling, sailing, and other sports.
Having said that, a little investment in the right gear can make a big difference to your level of comfort, and the likelihood that you’ll stick with your running habit.

A good pair of running shoes suited to your needs
Perhaps most obviously, you’ll need a good set of proper running shoes. If you don’t have these, then you’re more likely to suffer injuries and setbacks, and your times will suffer, too.
Of course, there’s no one kind of running shoe that matches every kind of runner. You’ll need to think about the shape of your feet, your pace, the terrain over which you’re running, and other, more subjective factors. Make sure that you try out a few options, and that you listen to your body.
Comfortable, breathable clothing for all conditions
The clothes you wear matter a great deal to your comfort when running. You’ll want options to suit a range of conditions – that way, you won’t have an excuse to stay at home, just because it’s raining, or overly sunny. Above all, you’ll want to pick out clothes that are breathable, and that wick up moisture. A pair of waterproof running gloves might make all the difference as the temperatures begin to drop.

Essential accessories to support your runs
As you get a little more advanced, you might appreciate the quality-of-life benefits that many of the latest gadgets provide. You might need a running watch to track your heart rate at a glance, or an armband to store your phone as you run. After all, having the thing bash against your hip with every stride can become tiresome very quickly. Often, the most effective additions to your arsenal are the cheapest ones.

Safety and visibility gear for confidence outdoors
Running is not a particularly dangerous activity, and the risks you face are vastly outweighed by the health benefits you’ll enjoy. With that said, those risks are still worth mitigating. If you’re running at night, for example, you’ll need reflective clothing, as well as a head torch. Having enough traction to avoid slipping during winter is also essential.
