Five Minutes of Online Distraction

Scrabble board

There are always times when you want to take a five minute break from the daily routine and that can happen even when you’re travelling the world, doing what most people can only dream about from their office job or life at home with the kids.

It seems almost sacrilegious to say you’re bored when you’re travelling, but anyone who has done a lot of travel will know that it’s true; you can have moments of restlessness and boredom just as easily as when you’re tied to one location.

So, just as in a normal routine, it’s great to have a few ideas up your sleeve for giving yourself a five minute break. For many of us today, those five minutes are often spent online – it’s so easy to be connected to the internet and find worlds of entertainment there. Here are a few ideas of how to take that online break.

Play bingo

Bingo’s no longer a game that requires a trip to the bingo hall, although there are still plenty of those around. If you have an internet connection, you have access to hundreds of different bingo sites like 888bingo, Gala Bingo and Mirror Bingo. On any of these sites, you can play bingo anytime as they all run 24-hour schedules. All of the sites offer free money to play with too; sign up with Mirror Bingo online bingo games and you’ll get a 300% bonus when you put £10 into your account. That amount of cash will go a long way when you’re playing games that cost from as little as 1p to play. Bingo’s an ideal game for when you want to zone out and relax – there’s nothing to do beyond choose the game you’re going to play and a player can’t influence the result of the game, so whether you win or lose is down to chance (or down to the random number generator software that controls the games in the case of online bingo!)

Do the crossword

If you want to give your brain cells a workout, there are hundreds of different online crosswords that you can play. Most newspaper sites have daily quick crosswords online and hundreds of back issues that you can choose from. If you really want a mental challenge, start doing the cryptic crosswords, which can be really challenging, especially if you’ve never done cryptic crosswords.

Play scrabble

You might only have a few minutes to spare and in that case, a game like online Scrabble is ideal. There are lots of apps that offer a similar game to Scrabble, and you can choose to play a friend by inviting them to play with you or to play random opponents chosen by the app. Games can go on over a period of weeks – with each player receiving a notification when it’s their turn to play.

Go puzzling

A list of online distractions wouldn’t be complete without including the many different puzzler games you can download apps for. Games like Bejeweled, Hexbee and Dots will keep you entertained for as long as you want to play, and require no particular skill sets so can be great to play anytime you just want a bit of a break.

Of course, there are many other ways that you can take a break – and they don’t all have to be online – but these are just a few that would be ideal for those times when you suddenly find you have nothing to do and don’t want to be bored.
